Crepes (Ooh lala!)

Hiah! Today we made orange crepes. We each made our own crepes and our own arrangements. I’ll give you the crepe recipe and the chocolate syrup recipe. Now that’s a real treat! YUM!
September 5,2011

We started making crepes in the evening. Mom made the batter and the syrup just before dinner. These are the recipes for the crepe and the syrup below. ↓

Crepe recipe (from Yummy)

  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh milka crepe, being cooked
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup melted unsalted butter, cooled
  • softened unsalted butter, for cooking crepe

Chocolate syrup (from Food)

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powderthe chocolate syrup
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water (lessen for thicker consistency)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 dash salt

Topping:

  • ice creamsliced orangesalmods
  • almonds
  • orange slices

Directions for crepe:

  1. In a bowl, sift together all the dry ingredients. Make a well in the center and add the liquid ingredients.
  2. Strain then chill for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Brush crepe pan with a little softened butter. Pour crepe batter and rotate pan.
  4. Cook until done. Transfer to a plate. Repeat procedure to make more crepes.

Tip: When a drop of batter sets in 8 to 10 seconds, the pan is hot enough. If the batter slides off instead of setting when you swirl the pan, it’s too cold. Getting plenty of holes is a sign that the pan’s too hot.

Directions for chocolate syrup:

  1. Combine cocoa, sugar, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. Add water, and mix until smooth.
  3. Bring this mixture to a boil.
  4. Allow it to boil for one minute, be careful this does not over boil.
  5. Remove from heat, when this cools add the vanilla.
“Hey, anyone can arrange their own crepes!” 🙂

When Mom finished making the crepe batter and making the syrup, we had a delicious meal of sinigang. The warm soup made me feel good. While my siblings cleared the table, Mom realised we had no ice cream. “Don’t worry.” ,Mom said. “I’ll buy some at a nearby store. Who wants to come with me?” “Me!”,said my brother. While the two of them went out, I washed the dishes. Shortly after I washed, they came home with ice cream and potato chips. Mom asked my brother to take the crepe batter out of the freezer. Then Mom asked him to slice some oranges. I took out the almonds and brought the choco sauce to the dining table. Mom made a crepe for my sister and for herself. We each made our own crepe with Mom’s supervision. We brought them to the table and we arranged our own crepes. I made two because one was for me, the other one was for my grandmother and for my aunt. I sliced theirs into two; one-half for grandmother, one half for aunt. Actually, the first one I made was for myself when Papa told me to give one crepe to them. I did give them the first one, and made another one for myself.

The pictures below were my brothers’, sisters’ and my crepe(s). They were very good. I love the chocolate sauce and the oranges! And the recipe for the crepe is for mango crepes but we changed the mangoes into oranges instead. We used vanilla ice cream for our crepes. You can choose any kind of ice cream, according to your taste.

My aunt's crepe They were very good, and the oranges are sweet. The chocolate syrup has a nice texture, and the ice cream-well, the ice cream melts quickly, so we need to eat it quickly, too.

I really like making crepes! You can fold it, roll it, or slice it, anyway you want! It’s a healthy dessert, and you can put any kind of fruit to pair with them.
